Anton Bruckner

(1824 - 1896)

Anton Bruckner short biography

One of the most important Austrian composers of the romantic era, Anton Bruckner is mainly known as a symphonist. Bruckner received his musical training as an organist, and served in this capacity in Linz. Bruckner was later appointed professor at the Vienna Conservatory where he taught harmony, counterpoint and organ. Brucknerís scores often create significant problems for conductors because of the composerís constant revisions of his works.  Bruckner made enormous contribution to the Austro-German symphonic traditions.
