An important French cellist and composer, Jean-Louis Duport made his acclaimed concert debut as part of the Concert Spirituel seriesat the age 18. Duport enjoyed the patronage of Prince of Guéménée and Baron de Bagge. In 1782, together with his friend, Giovanni Battista Viotti, Duport joined the orchestra for Concert de la Loge Olympique. During the French revolution Duport moved to Berlin where he was giving private lessons and performing in orchestral and chamber music concerts together with Bernard Romberg. Upon his return to Paris in 1812, Duport assumed the position of cello professor at the Paris Conservatoire.
