One of the most outstanding cellists of the 19th Century, Georg Goltermann was a student of Joseph Menter. Goltermann’s composition professor was Lachner. After a very successful solo career, Goltermann was appointed music and artistic director in Wurzburg. Soon, Goltermann assumed a position of Second Kapellmeister in Frankfurt. Goltermann was also an important cello composer. He wrote 7 Cello Concertos and many Drawing-room Pieces, which enjoyed substantial recognition.
