The son of a distinguished clarinet virtuoso and composer Heinrich Baermann, Carl Baermann (Bärmann)received his professional clarinet and basset-horn instructions from his father. Carl Baermann was appointed principal clarinetist of the Munich Orchestra, the position he held until his retirement. Carl Baermann toured Europe extensively. In 1833, Carl Baermann and his father premiered Mendelssohn’s Konzert Stücke, Op. 113 & Op. 114, to great public and critical acclaim. Carl Baermann developed the Baermann-Ottensteiner key system which became very popular. Carl Baermann’s Vollständige Clarinett-Schule (Complete School for the Clarinet) is one of the leading methods for the clarinet studies.
