The founder of the New York Flute Club, Georges Barrere is a historic figure in the American flute playing. Barrere was a student of Altes and Taffanel, In 1905, Barrere settled in the United States and assumed the position of first flutist of the New York Symphony. Barrere was also appointed professor at the Juilliard, the position he held for 39 years. Among his students were Kincaid, Willson,Blaisdell,Lora, Baron, Goldberg. Barrere played a major role in the acceptance of the silver flute in the United States.
