One of the greatest composers and music figures in French music, Jean-Baptiste Lully was born in Italy. Lully made a phenomenal career reaching the most important position of Master of Music to the Royal Family that gave him total control of all musical life in the French capital. Lully worked very closely with Moliere, Corneille and Quinault, creating and developing a genuinely French form of opera including comédies-ballets and tragédies lyriques. Lully was also credited in creation of French Overture.
