Stravinsky’s first major success was in Paris with compositions commissioned by the impresario Dyagilev. It was Dyagilev for whom Stravinsky later wrote a number of ballet scores. In 1939 Stravinsky moved to the United States. In the post-war time Stravinsky abandoned a style of neo-classicism and began composing in the twelve-note Schoenberg’s technique. A versatile composer, Stravinsky has made great contribution to many modern styles. At the invitation of the Russian government, Stravinsky visited Moscow and Leningrad conducting his own compositions.
