The major composer of the Italian operaseria, Antonio Sacchini was a student of Durante. Durante regarded his student ‘the best composer of the century’. In 1722, Sacchini settled in London and became enormously popular there. Sacchini’s opera debuts in Paris were continuous triumphs and often enjoyed even greater reception than the Gluck’s operas. Sacchini wrote over 40 operas, many oratorios, sacred and vocal music.
