Vladimir Horowitz

1903 - 1989

Vladimir Horowitz short biography

One of the most famous pianists of the 20th Century, Vladimir Horowitz played his first public concert  in 1920. In 1926, Horowitz played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Hamburg Philharmonic at an hour notice. This performance and the triumph that followed instantly made Horowitz a superstar. In 1928, Horowitz made his highly acclaimed New York debut, and settled in the USA the same year. In 1986, Horowitz returned to Russia for the first time in sixty years with historic recitals in Moscow and Leningrad that were televised worldwide. Horowitz always wanted to dedicate more time to composition. Horowitz’s few piano works display his enormous talent as a pianist and composer.
