An important Italian composer, Giovanni Sgambati studied in Trevi as a singer and conductor. In 1860, Sgambati settled in Rome where he was the first Italian musician to introduce the German music to the Italian audiences. Admired and supported by Liszt, Sgambati premiered Liszt's Dante symphony. In 1901, Sgambati’s enjoyed a significant success with his most extensive work, Requiem Mass. Sgambati’s contribution to the Italian music was important throughout his life.
