A distinguished Austrian composer, Ernst Krenek was a student in Vienna and Berlin. Influenced by Stravinsky, Krenek wrote his early compositions in neo-classical manner, creating an eclectic style with introduction of jazz elements. Kreeenek’s opera Jonny spielt auf was a great success. In his later compositions Krenek adopted 12-note serialism. Krenek's music was involved in virtually all the major trends, displaying the outstanding composition technique.
