A distinguished piano virtuoso, composer and teacher, Emil George Konrad von Sauer started piano lessons with his mother at the age of 5. Sauer later was a student of Nikolai Rubinstein at the Moscow Conservatory. When Sauer became Liszt’s student, he was already an internationally acclaimed pianist. In 1889, Sauer performed all 3 Tchaikovsky’s concertos in Berlin with the composer conducting, the memorable event that was a triumph. In 1908, Sauer played in the USA where a New York critic raved about his ‘poetic imagination and individual charm.’ One of the greatest Liszt’s students, Sauer became an important interpreter of the legendary composer.
