A great Italian organist, composer and writer, Severo De Luca Bonini, studied singing with Giulio Caccini. De Luca was appointed organist in Forli and latermaestro di cappella and organist at Santa Trinità in Florence. De Luca Bonini’s music was composed in the new monodic style. De Luca's book Prima parte de' discorsi e regole sovra la musica is a significant source of information about the art of composition and the development of monody and opera.
