The most important Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius found himself in the middle of the Finnish nationalism when his native country liberated itself from the Swedish and Russian occupancy. Sibelius had his professional music education in Helsinki and in Berlin. Sibelius soon became Finland’s most celebrated musician while building his international reputation. Sibelius did not agree with the modern music movements and did not compose much after 1926. Sibelius’s music has become very popular and is a part of the repertoire of the modern artists and orchestras.
